Samsung’s new miniature Stone-shaped MP3 player

It seems as though MP3 players keep getting smaller and even more portable. Of course what could possibly be more portable or convenient than carrying around a small pebble? Not much, and maybe that is why Samsung decided to design their new S2 “Pebble” MP3 player in the form of a small rock. Just be careful not to accidentally skip it across any lakes. Indeed the Pebble model so closely resembles its namesake that it will definitely get attention from people wondering why the owner is carrying around a shiny rock. However, Samsung has actually included a clever way to turn the stone into a type of jewellery, by including a necklace for the player that is integrated with headphones to also make for easy listening. The Pebble is fortunately available in five shiny colours (including red, purple, black, white and green) in order to help owners distinguish it from other stones should they happen to misplace it in a pile of rocks.

Achieving the smallest dimensions possible has always been a goal of electronic gadgets, but it also comes with certain sacrifices, including foremost with performance. Although the S2 Pebble is clearly not the most well endowed MP3 player on the market, it does offer something: the player has room for up to approximately 240 songs and makes full use of Samsung’s latest acoustic technology to deliver excellent sound quality. While 240 songs cannot compete with the 20,000 that can fit on Apple’s iPod classic, the iPod classic does not resemble a gleaming stone, or cost only £20. Yes, the MP3 player costs only £20, which is a real bargain for today’s music players and even more so if one considers the S2 Pebble doubles as a stylish necklace as well.
