Vosonic VP8870 160GB: Innovative and Versatile Portable Media Player

Can one just plug in headphones (or portable speakers) and play MP3s direct from the device? (I travel a lot & take on my travels both a portable HD for back/up storage and a MP3 player; it would be great to have a device which serves as BOTH my portable storage device (data and back ups) but which also - when at a hotel or at home - can be used to play MP3s direct from (without transferring to a separate MP3 player)).
I’ve looked through the specs of these HD media players and never see confirmation of whether they can/not play like this (-> speakers or headphones without going via a TV).

This is a difficult question, but as far as I can see the Vosonic VP887 does not have a headphone jack for simply plugging in your headphones, or speakers, and playing MP3s. It is an audio player, and it can play MP3s, but it must do so through another device (such as a TV) apparently.
