The Sony WAHTSA1 is not a speaker as implied. It is a 2.4GHz transmitter and receiver/amp.
The transmitter is a small dongle type unit that plugs into the back of Sony’s S-Air Wireless compatible amps and home theatre head units.
The receiver/amp is what he has described. Yes, it does weigh 1.7kg and it does measure 85mm (W) x 100 (H) x 345 (L), but it is not a speaker. It simply receives the left and right surround signals from the main front unit and amplifies them. (143W RMS for each of the 2 channels)
This means you have to connect your own left and right rear surround speakers via wires to the WAHTSA1 and don’t forget to check the power rating of your rear speakers.
The purpose of the unit is simply to avoid running wires from the front of the room to the rear. But don’t forget, you will also need mains power to the WAHTSA1.
The unit works well and as described by Sony. One great little feature is the inclusion on the main unit of a head phone jack - meaning when “the neighbours are complaining” you can simply plug your headphones in near where you are sitting, rather than tripping over overly long leads from the front of the room.
