Sony: Fountain Speakers to Match Philips’ Ambisound
The Japanese electronics concern Sony is introducing a new, tube shaped speaker onto the market in June. The so-called “Sountina” speaker has been specially conceived for use in large spaces such as hotel lobbies. The new innovation will be available on June 20th for 9,600 US dollars (around £4,800). LEDs inside the nearly one metre tall speaker manage to create light effects to go with the music, a feature we already recognise from Philips’ Ambilight series.
Sony’s Sountina is aimed towards discerning customers and business users, with their attempt to combine HiFi sound with advanced inner construction. According to Sony, the actual sound performance depends on the surfaces and walls inside the room. Of course some customers could demand a higher resonating sound and more powerful bass. Sony Senoir Manager Noriyasu Kawaguchi assumes that the American public, for example, with have different demands when it comes to speakers. The Japanese company has also yet to reveal when, or if, there will be a market introduction outside of Japan.
