Altec Lansing has recently announced its first Bluetooth headsets for mobile phones. The company has introduced two new stereo Bluetooth headphones named Backbeat 906 and Backbeat 903. The Backbeat 906 offers a Bluetooth 2.0 adapter along with the headset and the Backbeats 903 offers the headphones only. Both the products are aimed at mobile users who want to stay active and hassle free on the move. Both the Backbeat products are ergonomically enhanced and have a behind-the-neck wearing style. This makes it easy to use them without getting obstructed.
Both the headphones are optimised for delivering high quality audio. Altec Lansing has used its new BassBoost technology to produce impressively low frequencies. You will experience ultimate depth and resonance in the bass. Apart from this the mids and highs are also equally good and have been beautifully matched with the bass. In sample testing there was no sound distortion even at high volume. Both the Backbeat BT headsets have got comfortable ear cups that not only help in fitting the headsets properly but also prevent sound leakage and avoid any type of irritation or pain in the ears. Altec Lansing is clearly no novice when it comes to audio, but these Bluetooth headsets definintely have an advantage over other non-wireless headsets, like the Altec Lansing AHS 615. Furthermore, the main attraction of the Backbeat headsets is the OpenMic function that allows the user to instantly hear the surroundings at the touch of a button.
The adapter supplied with the Backbeat 906 adds to the versatility of the device. It can be used to transmit wireless stereo sound from iPhone, iPods or any other MP3 players via 3.5mm audio jack. Both the headsets integrate Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and support various profiles including hands-free, headset, AVRC and A2DP.

A speech by Steve Jobs at a conference in California on Monday is being looked towards with enthusiasm. Insiders are assuming that he will introduce the next generation of the iPhone.
Apple has not confirmed this to be true, but experts are nearly certain the Apple president Steve Jobs will introduce the second generation iPhone on Monday in San Francisco. The smartphone’s new edition should then also support UMTS. Most experts also talk of the phone including the new Apple mobile phone satellite navigation system (GPS). Jobs is speaking on Monday evening at the opening of the Apple development conference WWDC.
The iPhone unleashed a powerful media storm when it was released at the end of June 2007 in the US. The US magazine “Time” voted the device as the invention of the year for 2007. Up to 14 million mobile phones have been sold in the year since its release.
Analyst Tim Bajarin from Creative Strategies believes that 80% of the new iPhone’s innovations concern software improvements and not hardware changes. “It’s Apple’s goal to help developers understand the company’s software strategy and encourage them to write programmes for the Mac and iPhone”, says Bajarin.
Competitors such as HTC, Samsung and LG have brought their own smartphones onto the market in the foreground of Apple’s release, which already support the turbo variant of UMTS (HSDPA).
High-tech gadgets are usually intended and marketed for young people. In a bid to change this trend, however, the designer Adam Hoffman has recently introduced a new concept for the pockets of the 50+ computer geek crowd: the Cobalt appears to be a perfectly normal pocket watch from the outside. Although people will find themselves searching in vain for dials, gears and other old fashioned watch parts on the devices inside. Instead the watch contains a whole lot of high-tech features: the OLED display replaces the clock dial, and displays the time, date temperature, incoming emails, news and text messages. If this is too much information at once for anyone, then they can simply opt for the screen to only display the time – buyers can configure every part of the menu themselves.
There is also enough room for a mobile phone and MP3 player inside the watch. It should also even be controllable using a Bluetooth headset and voice recognition software. Although in emergencies, in case one has a sore throat for example, the device is also controllable via the hidden keyboard on the reverse side of the display cover. This way there is always an option available for older technology fans, or even for younger fans who wish to look wiser and more distinguished, instead of carrying around the standard childish looking gadgets. All they need now is their Cobalt, a monocle, top hat, and a walking stick to help complete the look.

The speaker system measures 387 x 155 x 130 millimetres and weighs in at 2.25 kilograms. The Acoustic Energy Bluetooth speaker system is available immediately for around £160.
These wireless speakers from Logitech should turn an A2DP Bluetooth mobile phone into a compact stereo system.
Logitech is introducing the Pure-Fi Mobile speaker system for mobile phones. The sound system supports the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) Bluetooth technology and can thereby be cordlessly connected to compatible mobile phones. It supports a reception range of up to 10 metres. The speakers’ high performance technology easily fills the living room, car or office with a clear bass and pure highs.
The Pure-Fi Mobile can additionally be used as a hands free kit for the mobile phone. The system is equipped with two integrated microphones – one for transferring voice, the other for recognising undesired background noises and filtering them out. You don’t even need to hold the mobile in your hand to phone – calls can be received and ended using the keys on the top side of the speakers. The Pure-Fi Mobile speaker system from Logitech will probably be available starting June for around £120.
